Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Rachel Kolisi’s Radio Interview Goes Viral

South Africans get deep in their feelings whenever they hear about Rachel and/or Siya Kolisi, but each time either former partner speaks up, new insights give a peek into a life that was less than rosy despite what you saw portrayed across social media.

In a recent interview on 947 Radio, the 36-year-old entrepreneur talked about her upcoming documentary and book, “Falling Forward”. She also spoke about the early years of her relationship with the Springbok captain, and let’s just say that several things she mentioned raised eyebrows.

In 2015, money was tight, and when Rachel gave birth to their first child, Nicholas, she also had a full-time job. However, she eventually left her work in order to care for her firstborn and Siya’s siblings, Liyema and Liphelo, which left her financially reliant on her husband and having to seek permission in order to get basic necessities and toiletries.

Then it hit the Twitter/X airwaves and everyone pitched in with their shock and thoughts about these new revelations.

Fans showed their eagerness to know more and made plans to buy her book.

Siya shared his own past challenges in his 2023 memoir, “Rise”, and hoo-wee, did it give loads to chinwag about: gambling, drinking with the boys and the sort of behaviour you did not expect from the beloved sporting hero.

For those who had been following their eight-year marriage closely, a few souls acknowledged that Rachel was entitled to compensation after the divorce.

In the end, you had those tweeps who questioned why people would believe her, to those questioning her motives and how she spoke in the interview.

It goes without saying that the social media streets are not the place for an intellectual debate, but if you want anger and rumours to spread, you have no better audience!

Rachel is sharing her side of the story, and now Mzansi is left to decide what the people want and who to believe and trust. Everyone has skeletons in their closet, but who wants to argue when there are families that want to get on with their lives.
